The School of Built Environment and Development Studies (BEDS) in partnership with the College of Humanities Student Support Services and the Career Development Office, held a Career Development and Employment Skills Workshop for Humanities students on the Howard College campus.

Students were introduced to job hunting tips, CV writing, interview skills, work ethic, postgraduate requirements (Honours, Master’s and PhD) as well as postgraduate application procedures.

Mr Lindani Maphumulo, Academic Development Officer in the School, said, ‘This workshop benefits all students who are willing to work part time or full time in the near future and those who are willing to further their studies to postgraduate level.’

Third-year Housing student, Ms Asanda Khuzwayo, said the workshop was rewarding and helped equip her with the necessary skills to get a job in the future. ‘This was a good initiative by the School because many of us don’t know how to prepare for an interview or how to structure a CV. The postgraduate degree programme was explained to us and that has motivated me to work towards my Honours.’

Third-year Social Sciences student, Mr Lungelo Shandu, felt that the workshop was vital for all students. ‘We need more workshops like this because what was taught here today helps us make it in the job market.’
