Topic
Based on Guy Rocher’s theory of change, this presentation examines and characterizes the socio-ecological changes linked to the expansion of oil palm exploitation from a sustainable development perspective. Taking the case of the Municipality of Ngwéi in the Littoral-Camerounais, the targeted analysis focal points are land pressures and land conflicts (at the social level), deforestation and fragmentation of ecosystems including the sprawl of space which in turn, follows (ecologically).
Speaker Bio
Guy Donald Abassombe is Queen Elizabeth Scholar at York University and Doctoral student at the University of Yaoundé I. For his PhD thesis, he is looking at the Oil palm cultivation, socio-environmental change and climate justice in the district of Ngwei, Littorale-Cameroon. The scientific fields of interest of his work are on Environmental Geography, Agricultural Geography and Sustainable Development / Ecological Economy, Climate Change / Climate Justice.
