CCS Webinar: Defund the Police, Abolish the Stalker State – A Global Fight

2 September, 2020 | 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Facilitators: Danford Chibvongodze & Andries MotauSpeaker: Hamid Khan
Topic: Governments and law enforcement agencies across the world are using algorithms, predictive analytics, risk assessment, facial recognition, drones, and other forms of carceral technologies to contain, control, and criminalize Black, Brown, Migrant, poor, and other marginalized populations. The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition has been organizing in Los Angeles against the rampant deployment of these tactics and technologies using an abolitionist framework. In our fight we have grounded police drones and shut down the predictive policing LASER, chronic offender bulletin and Predpol program. In this conversation we will share the work of the coalition and how community led grassroots efforts that embody abolition are fighting back to stop, dismantle, and abolish the Stalker State in Los Angeles.
Speaker Bio: Hamid Khan is an organizer with the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition. The mission of the coalition is to build community-based power to dismantle police surveillance, spying, and infiltration programs. The coalition utilizes multiple campaigns to advance an innovative organizing model that is Los Angeles-based but has implications regionally, nationally, and internationally.
