About this Course

Overview

Bachelor of Architectural Studies The Bachelor of Architectural Studies degree is a three-year program that provides a strong academic and practical foundation for students in both their yearlong internship in an architectural firm and their Masters in Architecture degree that will follow thereafter. The first year introduces students to the principles of architecture from an anthropometric perspective, the second year introduces further social and environmental influences on architecture, and the final year prepares students for their internship.

Entry Requirements

Please note that the following are the minimum academic points that are needed in order to be eligible to apply for a place in the Architecture programme:

  1. A total of 30 points – excluding Life Orientation
  2. Level 5 Mathematics – not Maths literacy (no upgrades from Maths literacy)
  3. June results and Trial results in grade 12, as well as final Grade 11 results can be submitted. Please note that if your application is conditionally approved, it will only be confirmed upon receipt of final grade 12 results which need to meet our minimum criteria.
  4. PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS: The portfolio requirements include a drawing and a written component. Drawings to be done ONLY on A4 paper in pen or pencil – neatly held together in a folder or stapled together and placed in an envelope. The submission needs to include only original pieces of work unique for this application. No photocopies of work or traced images will be accepted.

Basic IsiZulu Language Studies A (ZULN101)

Prerequisite Requirement: Open only to Students who have NOT written grade 12 isiZulu/isiXhosa/Zim isiNdebele/isiSwati or are proficient in these languages.

Aim: To achieve elementary fluency in both the oral and the written language.

Content: This module introduces basic grammar, history and culture of the amaZulu. Lectures combine an academic study of IsiZulu with the use of a communicative method of language learning.

Assessment: Class work: 40%   Examination: 60%

DP Requirement: Students must submit all written work on time and must comply with the attendance requirements for the isiZulu Discipline.
