Community Engagement

Who are we?

A SOBEDS Community Engagement Committee, comprising 5 committee members, namely: Prof Yanga Zembe-Zondi, Prof Claudia Loggia, Mrs Zilungile Mbhele, Dr Methembe Mdlalose, Mr Siphesihle Mbhele. Recently, we established a student arm called the SOBEDS Community Engagement Student Forum, led by postgraduate students Lwandile Manyoni & Siyasanga Mbaligontsi.

To establish Community Engagement as an institutionalized, theoretically embedded and intentional practice that is underpinned by collectively defined ethics and principles at SOBEDS. We want to make sure that the CE work we are doing goes beyond just making a positive impact, to contributing toward socio-economic transformation.

Community Engagement

We are planning a Community Engagement Indaba for 28 Nov 2022. The theme is “A conversation on Community Engagement at SOBEDS: Definitions, Theories and Practices”

We have developed a Disaster Response Strategy that we plan to activate in the School, and which will include a donation drive for non-perishable goods that can be stored in our School and distributed to school and community members who are affected by major natural and unnatural disasters, such as the recent floods and last year’s riots.
